Linda Ronstadt gave Tucson something to be proud of.
SO TUCSON GAVE HER A DAY OF HER OWN.
On July 15, 2021, Mayor Regina Romero officially declared Linda Ronstadt Day in honor of Linda’s 75th birthday. The proclamation celebrated her contributions to the performing arts and her lifelong dedication to carrying the culture of Southern Arizona and Sonora, Mexico, to audiences around the world.
Linda Ronstadt Day In Tucson
But here’s what makes the tribute so touching…
Linda can no longer sing because of progressive supranuclear palsy, a Parkinson’s-like disease that ended her performing career. But every July 15, her hometown makes sure her music is still heard.
Local radio station KXCI has continued celebrating Linda Ronstadt Day with music and stories honoring her recordings, heritage, and Tucson legacy.
And that’s not all…
Tucson’s love for Linda did not stop with one proclamation.
The University of Arizona has honored her as one of its most famous alumni, and her life was also celebrated in the documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound Of My Voice, which won Best Music Film at the Grammys.
Here’s the truth…
Linda Ronstadt may have lost the ability to perform, but Tucson refuses to let her voice fade.
Her songs still play.
Her hometown still celebrates her.
And her legacy still carries the sound of the desert, the borderlands, and the family roots that shaped her.
