How Elvis and Priscilla Presley Pulled Off the Ultimate Vegas Wedding

Imagine sneaking out of your own house in the dead of night, climbing over a backyard wall just to get married. That is exactly what the biggest rock star on the planet did! On May 1, 1967, Elvis Presley pulled off the ultimate secret escape to marry his true love, Priscilla. There were no giant crowds or screaming fans, just a sneaky midnight flight on Frank Sinatra’s private jet. It was the quiet, thrilling start to a royal rock and roll wedding in Las Vegas.

The epic love story actually started long before that wild Vegas trip. They first locked eyes in Germany in 1959 when Elvis was in the Army and Priscilla was just fourteen years old. Against all odds, they stayed connected through endless phone calls when he went back home. Eventually, her strict parents let her move to Graceland at age seventeen, but only if she promised to finish high school and live with Elvis’s father. It was a very long wait, but the King kept his promise to finally marry her.

When the big day arrived, it was surprisingly short and sweet. The famous couple said their vows in a tiny, eight-minute civil ceremony at the Aladdin Hotel at nine in the morning. Elvis even made a special, modern request to completely remove the word “obey” from Priscilla’s wedding promises. She looked absolutely stunning in a loose, white organza lace dress bought right off the rack, topped with a sparkling rhinestone tiara and a huge three-foot veil.

The wedding feast, however was truly fit for a king! They served a crazy mix of fancy lobster, Southern fried chicken, Oysters Rockefeller and a massive roast suckling pig. But the real star of the room was the wedding cake. It was a giant six-tier yellow sponge masterpiece filled with apricot marmalade and sweet cream. Back then, it cost over three thousand dollars, which is exactly like spending thirty-one thousand dollars today! It was an expensive, tasty slice of pure music history.

This fun moment officially shortened their age gap to exactly ten years, as Elvis was 32 at the time.

Watching them in this sweet birthday video is like peeking into a private  world. You can see Priscilla smiling brightly as she carefully cuts her birthday cake surrounded by close friends and family. Elvis stands right by her side looking incredibly proud and perfectly happy in his own home. It is a beautiful, simple moment that shows they were just a normal young couple deeply in love, enjoying the quiet life away from the stage.

It proves that behind all the flash and fame, Elvis just wanted a beautiful, simple life with the girl he loved.
