When Ryan Seacrest called her name and the confetti started falling Hannah Harper could not see any of it. She was already weeping before the words even landed and by the time she opened her eyes there was a star stuck in her eyelash from crying through the entire moment.
WHAT CAME NEXT WAS NOT A WINNER’S SPEECH. IT WAS SOMETHING FAR MORE PERSONAL THAN THAT.
Hannah Harper winning moment and thank you speech
She thanked her fans first. The people who had voted for her week after week from their living rooms and their phones and their small towns across America.
Then she thanked her boys. The three little faces 1700 miles away in Missouri who had sent her a video that night telling her she was their idol before anyone told them she was everyone else’s.
THEN SHE LOOKED FOR HER FATHER.
He was sitting in the audience in his signature overalls the same ones he has worn his whole life the same ones he wore when he quit his job at a lead mine so his family could chase music together decades before any of this happened.
All of Hannah’s performances during Idol
He had always been there for Hannah, and he had been crying since she walked out for String Cheese.
And when Hannah looked at him through everything she had been through the years of doubt and the couch in Missouri and the postpartum darkness and the cleaning videos on TikTok,
SHE WAS JUST IN DISBELIEF ABOUT THANKING THE MAN WHO MADE IT POSSIBLE.
Then she closed the night, the only way that made sense to her. Standing on the American Idol stage in front of millions, she sang a worship song through tears and gave every bit of it back to God.
Hannah truly felt her Idol win belonged to Jesus, and along with a massive sacrifice from her family, it was God who paved her way to the win
