Bee Gees Album That’s Full Of Surprises!

I’m pretty sure, even if you are not a Bee Gees fan, you must have heard one song from them in your lifetime. Chances are that song was on the Saturday Night Fever album!

The album was one of the greatest hits ever, but you know the craziest part about the Saturday Night Fever music is that it almost didn’t happen.

In 1977, the Bee Gees weren’t even in America. They were hiding away in a spooky old castle in France called Château d’Hérouville, working on a completely different album.

One day, their manager called them from Los Angeles. He said, “I’m making a movie about a guy who likes to dance. Can you write a few songs for it?” The Bee Gees were busy, but they said, “Fine, give us a weekend.”

The brothers sat down in that French studio and started writing. Here is the funny part: they hadn’t even seen the movie! They didn’t know who John Travolta (the guy the movie was about) was, and they didn’t know the story was about a dancer in Brooklyn. They just had a rough idea and their own imagination.

In just one long weekend, they knocked out the most famous songs of their lives. They wrote “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” and “How Deep Is Your Love” back-to-back. They weren’t trying to make “Disco” music; they were just trying to write soulful songs about survival and love.

Bee Gees Wrote “Stayin’ Alive” In One Night. 40 Million Copies Sold!

Just one weekend, and it changed the trajectory of music! Can you imagine how talented you have to be to come up with something like that? Well, that’s the Bee Gees for you!

And it doesn’t end here: in that single week, they were able to create a secret about the drumbeat in “Stayin’ Alive.” Their drummer had to leave suddenly, and they couldn’t find a replacement in the French countryside. So, they took a tiny piece of a drum recording they already had, looped it, and played it over and over. That “loop” created the steady, hypnotic heartbeat that the whole world fell in love with. Doctors even say this beat is the ideal speed for saving a life during CPR!

The album is full of surprises, isn’t it!?

When the producers finally heard the music, they flipped out. They knew right then that this movie was going to be a monster hit. And well, it was. All thanks to the Bee Gees.
