Did you know that Elvis Presley had a very short temper? While millions of people loved Elvis, there were some famous people that he just could not stand. It is hard to imagine that a man who sang such beautiful songs could also be so angry at other stars. Some of these stories about his secret feuds are so wild that they sound like a movie.
Elvis once got into a huge fight with John Lennon from The Beatles. When they met in 1965, the tension was very thick because they had different ideas about the Vietnam War. Elvis actually asked President Richard Nixon to help him get John Lennon kicked out of the United States. He told the President that The Beatles were bad for America and were causing trouble with young people.
Another star Elvis did not like was a singer named Robert Goulet. Elvis was so annoyed by seeing Robert Goulet on his television that he actually shot the TV screen with a gun. He was very jealous of other singers and did not like seeing them perform. His team always kept extra TVs around because Elvis shot them so often when he was angry at the people on the screen.
Celebrities Elvis Couldn’t Stand
Even the famous Frank Sinatra had a rocky start with the King. Sinatra once called Rock and Roll music “garbage” and said the people who played it were “cretinous goons.” Elvis did not like this at all and said that Sinatra was badly mistaken. Eventually, they became friends and even worked together on a TV show, but the drama between them was a huge deal for fans at the time.
Even though Elvis had some big fights, he also knew how to show respect to other great musicians. One of his most amazing performances was when he sang a song originally written by George Harrison from The Beatles. In 1973, Elvis performed the song “Something” during his famous “Aloha from Hawaii” concert. This show was special because it was the first time a concert was broadcast live around the world by satellite.
When Elvis sang this song, he wore his iconic white jumpsuit covered in beautiful jewels. He chose to sing “Something” because it was one of his favorite songs by The Beatles, even though he had a feud with John Lennon. He sang it with so much emotion and style that the audience in Honolulu went wild. It showed that he could still appreciate great music even if he didn’t always get along with the people who wrote it.
