Imagine being part of a team of brothers who changed music forever. Now, imagine being the only one left. That is the life of Sir Barry Gibb.
At 80, he is the “Last Bee Gee.” He has said goodbye to his little brother, Andy; his wingman, Maurice; and, finally, Maurice’s twin, Robin.
The pain of losing them is so much that Barry did something he has never ever done before! In an interview with 7NEWS Spotlight, he cried on camera for the first time!
Watching old videos of his brothers was too much for him. He had to stop the interview because the pain was so fresh.
Barry shared a fact that most fans don’t know, and it is heartbreaking. He admitted that his greatest regret is that every time he lost a brother, they were in the middle of a fight. They weren’t getting along when the end came. He has to live with that silence every day, wishing he could have said one last kind word.
The Last BeeGee: Barry Gibb’s emotional interview
After Robin passed away in 2012, Barry no longer wanted to sing. He was depressed and stayed on his couch for a long time. But his wife, Linda, wouldn’t let him give up. She told him to “get off his ass” because his voice was too beautiful to waste!
So, Barry did something brave. He started his first-ever solo tour. On the same day as that emotional interview, he walked onto a stage in Boston all by himself.
The concert felt like a family reunion. Barry’s son, Steven, played the guitar, and his niece, Samantha (Maurice’s daughter), sang with him.
When they sang “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Even though Barry is alone now, he keeps his brothers alive. When he sings their hits like “Stayin’ Alive” or “Massachusetts,” their faces flash on big screens behind him. He says he can’t even look back at the screen because it hurts too much, but he feels them there.
Barry Gibb proved that even if you are the last man standing, you are never truly alone as long as the music keeps playing.
