In 1975, Barry Gibb was just a normal singer with a deep voice. Then, one night in a recording studio, his producer told him to “try something different.” He told Barry to scream as high as he could.

Barry opened his mouth, and instead of a scream, a beautiful, high-pitched “angel voice” came out. It was a sound no man had ever made before. This is called a falsetto, which now defines disco music.

This talent of his soon became a curse. People enjoyed playing the Bee Gees (Barry’s group) so much that their obsession turned into hatred at one point. Radio stations actually banned Barry. His happy life was turned upside down to the point that he cried over the art he created!

Since Barry was a songwriting genius and had to survive, he began writing songs for others in secret.

One day, he wrote a song called “Heartbreaker.” As he finished it, he realized it was the best song he had ever created. It was his masterpiece. But he knew the truth: if he sang it, it would be a failure because people hated him.

He had to give the song away to a singer named Dionne Warwick. After he recorded the practice version (the demo), Barry actually sat down and cried. He felt like he was giving away a piece of his soul just because the world wouldn’t let him be himself. The song became a giant #1 hit for Dionne, and while the world danced, Barry watched from the shadows, sad and alone.

But his story doesn’t end on a sad note! The world that cancelled him for 10 years brought him back into the spotlight and charts. The world realised that he has a talent that is hard to suppress. Garry got to sing every song that he wrote for others.
