Michael Jackson Gave O.J. Simpson Refuge at Neverland After His 1995 Murder Trial

In October 1995, O.J. Simpson walked out of one of the most watched criminal trials in American history after being acquitted of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The media frenzy did not disappear with the verdict. Yet according to an extraordinary story Michael Jackson later told his bodyguards, Simpson had access to one place largely hidden from that storm: Neverland Ranch.

Michael’s former bodyguards Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard later recounted that Michael told them Simpson stayed at Neverland after his acquittal. The connection was not simply a secondhand tale either. Years later, Simpson publicly discussed knowing the Jackson family and said Michael invited him to bring his children to Neverland.

O.J. Simpson Reveals Michael Jackson Invited His Family to Neverland

Simpson’s own account adds another layer to the story. He said Michael learned about what his family was going through and encouraged him to take the children to Neverland, where the sprawling property offered rides, animals and privacy far removed from ordinary public life. Contemporary reporting also placed Simpson at Neverland with his family shortly after the 1995 acquittal.

What makes the story remarkable is the timing. Simpson’s criminal trial had become a national spectacle and his acquittal on October 3, 1995 did little to quiet the attention surrounding him. Allowing him onto a private estate as famous as Neverland was therefore not an ordinary invitation. It offered something exceptionally difficult for Simpson and his children to find at that moment: distance from the cameras.

The episode also fits a picture Whitfield and Beard later painted of Michael’s private world. They described a man who could be intensely guarded about his own life while quietly helping people away from public view. Their account says Michael himself brought up Simpson’s stay while speaking with them years later.

Whatever people make of Michael’s decision to welcome Simpson, the story reveals just how unusual life behind Neverland’s gates could become. Michael Jackson was one of the world’s most recognizable entertainers, the artist behind Thriller and a performer accustomed to enormous public attention. Yet some of his most surprising decisions happened where almost nobody could see them. Watch Simpson tell the Neverland story himself in the video above.
