Willie Nelson Riding A Horse Down Congress Avenue Sounds Like A Tall Tale, But His Love For Horses Is Real

They say it was just another morning in Austin until Willie Nelson came trotting down Congress Avenue on a horse.

ONLY WILLIE COULD MAKE CITY TRAFFIC SOUND LIKE A COWBOY PROBLEM.

The story goes that when someone asked why he was riding instead of driving, Willie just smiled and said traffic was bad, and a horse did not have to worry about red lights.

It sounds like pure Texas folklore.

But with Willie, that is half the fun.

Willie Nelson’s Horseback Legend

But here’s what makes the story believable…

Willie’s love for horses is not a rumor.

At Luck Ranch in the Texas Hill Country, more than 70 rescued horses roam his land, most saved before they could be sent to slaughterhouses. Willie once said his horses are probably the luckiest in the world because they get hand-fed twice a day and have space to live peacefully.

And that’s not all…

Willie has also spoken out against wild horse roundups. In 2012, he criticized an emergency Bureau of Land Management gathering in Northern Nevada, saying he was appalled by the roundup during foaling season.

Here’s the truth…

The Congress Avenue ride may live somewhere between fact and fable.

But Willie Nelson rescuing horses is very real.

He did not just sing cowboy songs.

He gave old, unwanted horses a place to rest, run, and be safe.

Could you see Willie choosing a horse over Austin traffic?
