In 1980, the two biggest stars on the planet decided to work together. Barbra Streisand was the Queen of Movies, and Barry Gibb was the King of the Charts.
When they teamed up for the album Guilty, it didn’t just break records; it started a massive rumor that lasted for years.
The first thing people saw was the album cover. It showed Barbra and Barry hugging, both dressed in glowing white clothes. They looked so close and happy that the whole world started whispering, “Are they a secret couple?”

Behind the scenes, the studio was a battlefield. Barry is usually a very calm man, but Barbra is a perfectionist. They fought so badly that Barbra almost quit the album three different times. During one two-hour screaming match about the song “Woman in Love,” Barbra famously yelled at Barry: “You don’t understand women!” Barry didn’t back down. He finally snapped and gave her a “take it or leave it” choice; she had to sing it his way, or the song was finished.
Because they were both so stubborn, they created a masterpiece that sold 20 million copies. (It was also because they cashed out their dating rumour!)
Even with all the yelling, their “chemistry” was real. In 1986, Barry joined Barbra for a special concert at her home in Malibu. When they stood together on stage, people adored them!
They smiled, they joked, and their voices fit together so beautifully. Barry’s high “falsetto” voice and Barbra’s powerful “soprano” voice made the audience go crazy.
Working with Barbara on guilt proved that Barry, himself a living legend, could make anyone a superstar!
