The Day Elvis Sold His Voice for a Box of Donuts

Did you know that Elvis Presley only made one real commercial in his whole life? Most people know him for his blue suede shoes and great hair. But before he was super famous, he used his voice to sell something delicious. He did not sing for money, but for something much sweeter.

It all started with a company called Southern Maid Donuts. A family named the Hargroves started this business in 1937. It became very big in the South. A man named Bruce Jones opened a shop in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was smart and wanted to advertise his donuts to music fans. So, he started sponsoring a famous radio show called the Louisiana Hayride.

In 1954, Elvis was just a young guitar player on the Louisiana Hayride. He really loved those hot glazed donuts. He liked them so much that he agreed to record a radio commercial for the store. He made the whole commercial in exchange for just one box of hot glazed donuts. He was happy to work for his favorite snack!

Elvis sang a catchy little song for the ad. He sang, “You can get them piping hot after 4 P.M.” He wanted everyone to know that Southern Maid Donuts hits the spot. Sadly, this recording was never released to the public back then. But today, it is a fun piece of history that shows how much the King loved a good donut.

Elvis Do His First and only Commercial

Many years later, Elvis appeared in another commercial, but this one was different. In 1999, the Energizer Battery company used fancy technology to put Elvis in their ad. They wanted to show that their batteries kept going and going, just like Elvis’s music.

In this funny commercial, you can see Elvis full of life and energy. It mixes his classic moves with the famous pink Energizer Bunny. This commercial came out more than 20 years after Elvis passed away. It proved that his energy was so big, it could still sell batteries decades later.

Whether he was a hungry young boy or a global superstar, he always knew how to connect with his fans. He truly is the King of Rock, Roll, and Sales!
