But did you know Elvis lived in many other places before he became the King? Before he was a superstar, Elvis was just a regular kid moving around Memphis with his parents. In 1949 his family moved into a small apartment at 185 Winchester Street which was part of a public housing complex called Lauderdale Courts. They paid very little rent but it was a happy home. As Elvis’s career started to explode in 1956, he wanted to buy a real home for his parents. He bought a nice four-bedroom house on Audubon Drive for $29,500. Elvis loved to relax at home and his downstairs area was the ultimate hangout. He had a TV room with three television sets built into the wall because he heard the President watched three news channels at once. He also had a special secret staircase in the kitchen. This allowed him to sneak up to his bedroom without seeing guests in the living room if he wasn’t in the mood to talk.
